The Course – 2020

For 2020’s special Time Trial event, the start and finish will be located at Brightlingsea’s famous Bateman’s Tower landmark at the seaward end of Promenade Way and the route you will pass through some spectacular waterside scenery and by a number of the town’s famous and perhaps surprising landmarks and places of interest.

The Air Ambulance needs our help and support more than ever during this time of crisis so please participate or make a donation or sponsor someone participating, as every little helps in these times of need. Online entry and details of how to donate will be available shortly.

The course distance remains approx 4 miles and it will take you along the waterfront of Brightlingsea Creek past the Lido, Brightlingsea Sailing Club, through the Marina and past the Town Hard, through the Shipyard Estate and onto the seawall, past Hurst Green, along the High Street and up Richard Avenue, across the Recreation Ground, through Springmead Gardens, down Ladysmith Avenue, Victoria Place, New Street and Silcott Street and finally along Promenade Way to finish back at Bateman’s Tower.

Runners and joggers are asked to record their own time for the run and details of how to submit your time will be provided on entry. Those walking the course will also be able to follow a special version of the route map that includes details of the places of interest you will pass and we hope this will add interest for everyone, particularly the younger participants who can enjoy crossing each of the places off as they locate them.

Please note that this route is on a mixture of roadways, unmade roads and footpaths.  Walking is easy and mainly flat with only a couple of gentle inclines, however the ground can be uneven and in event of rain muddy, so participants are requested to wear suitable footwear and clothing.

Horses and bicycles are not permitted on the route and it is unsuitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, although sturdy buggies/pushchairs are fine.  Dogs are welcome (including Canicross participants) but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Competitors can complete the course at any time between 9am and 5.3opm daily between Saturday 5 and Sunday 13 September.
